[ RadSafe ] KI Shelf-Life Extension Data

I admit to doubts as to whether there are credible scenarios where KI is
going to help, but in such a situation I suspect that the physical state
of the tablets will not the high on the "things to worry about" list.

Maybe there is a way the tablets in their containers could be
irradiated, then certified as having there potency "at original levels".
I know that the irradiation would be pointless, but it would add to the
impression that something had been done.

Mike: I believe the issue is w/ dis-solution of tabs beyon expiri. The
tabs are still good if crushed and mixes w/ solvent e.g. lemonade.

I have always been a little fuzzy on what exactly goes bad with KI in
order to limit its shelf life. I guess if it is in an unsealed
container, subject to high temperatures, high humidity, and maybe
something else, there could be some chemical changes. But in a sealed
container that doesn't react with K and/or I, let alone the salt, it
seems to me that what you get out is what was put in.

Radsafe members:

On behalf of my interim director I pose the query below:

"Please send a Note out to Rad Safe on the issue of other states with
non-EPZ KI distribution and whether any states have requested a shelf
life extension at any time."

I realize that this is primarily, a regulatory issue and may not be
applicable for this forum; however the crux of the question is centered
on extension of KI shelf-life (stability testing). Any input would be
appreciated.
