[ RadSafe ] LNT Petition

While I am one of the 330 who have signed it, you have to have 100,000
signatures by 5/12 to get a response from the White House. (from the White
House (Terms of Participation web page): To cross the second threshold and
require a response, *a petition must reach 100,000 signatures within 30
days.). *The petition was created on 4/12/2013.

This does not seem to be an effective way to address this issue. I suspect
it is better suited to topics of widespread public interest (such as gun
control), where getting the 100,000 signatures is more likely. The total
HPS membership is only 5,000 or so, and many within the HPS hold differing
views. Add the ANS membership and you still don't get to 100,000 likely
signers. More planning and an advertising campaign with a launch that was
publicized widely might have a problem getting 100,000 to sign it within 30
days.
