[ RadSafe ] RadSafe Digest, Vol 2010, Issue 1

Hi, Brad.

One of the things I have always found fascinating is how very different the different parts of the rad biz are. I have seen people cry at public meetings over the risk from 1 pCi/g in desert sand, 20 miles from the nearest home, yet be utterly uninterested in testing their home for radon (even though they live in an area where the levels could easily be over 20 pCi/l). There is an activist I know who thinks nothing of flying between Washington State and Washington D.C. several times a month, but describes spent fuel on a train as "random acts of murder" against people within 10 miles of the tracks.

I wonder how many "Fukushima equivalents " are represented by a single New York hyperthyroid treatment?

> How scientifically credible is CRIIRAD, alleged French research body on radioactivity. The alleged NGO advised pregnant women and infants against "risky behaviour," such as consuming fresh milk or vegetables with large leaves in April 2011. Now the anti-nukes are trying to tie this alleged warning into the coverup of the effects of lead leached out of the pipes into the drinking water in Flint Michigan.

In Europe CRIIRAD had issued a warning on possible health effects in France and advised that children and Pregnant women should refrain from drinking milk and eating leafy vegetables. CRIIRAD also stated that the USA had ten times the level of radiation than France. The European Media did not run with the story nor did the US media, thus putting young children and Pregnant women at risk of increaing the amounts of iodine 131 they might have ingested or inhaled.
