BEIR VII

I attended the BEIR VII meeting in Irvine, CA a couple of weeks ago.
This was the first meeting of the full committee. There was opportunity
for public testimony before the committee. Apparently that will be the
case in all future meetings. This is a very important point. The anti
LNTH, pro hormesis, adaptive response people MUST present testimony at
future BEIR VII meetings because the anti nuclear people were out in
force at that meeting and probably will be again at future meetings.
The committee, in my estimation, in general, is not fully knowledgeable
about the LNTH debate. It needs to be helped to understand all of the
things RADSAFERS and others have been propounding about the LNTH for
years. Such understanding can come from testimony at BEIR VII meetings
and the submittal of papers that demonstrate the LNTH does not represent
reality.

One of the anti nuclear people, a representative of Physicians for
Social Responsibility contended that all the BEIR VII members are biased
because they all get financial support from the nuclear industry. He
said the remedies for such bias are: 1. for the committee to resign en
masse, 2. the anti nuclear people will force committee members to be
removed, by lawsuit or in the court of public opinion. It seems we
haven't heard the last of the diatribe against the committee.

It was interesting that all nine of the antis who spoke had the same
theme: the committee members are biased in favor of relaxing the
radiation protection standards. It was almost as if their presence had
been orchestrated.

I urge all who can and will to testify at the BEIR VII committee
meetings so that all of the data will be considered by the committee.
