Actually, there must be some atoms of Pu-239 in all natural uranium and
older DU since both U-239 and U-235 undergo spontaneous fission (at a low
rates) which produces high energy neutrons that can be captured by U-238
yielding U-239 which decays to Np-239 and then to Pu-239.
