If one analyzed the recent alert at IP2 that
occurred on Tuesday at
approximately 7:29PM, and was lifted on
Wednesday at approximately
6:50PM, the conclusion would be that all
parties concerned did a
terrific job, and performed their specific
functions as they should
have been. Looking at the actions taken by
the plant to identify the
leak, and to isolate it, they accomplished
their mission. The
governmental agencies did their job by
declaring the appropriate
protective actions after conversing with all
parties (requiring no
public actions) based on data provided by
the plant. The media for
the most part did a very good job in
providing factual news releases
informing the public of what occurred and
what was to be expected.
The US nuclear power industry, and the
various governmental agencies,
continue to demonstrate that lessons
learned from TMI have been
implemented well, and, that we do not
have the communication glitches
that had occurred back in the '70s. ALL
should be commended for a job
well done (including the media)!
