RE: Linking Legacies and other books.

"Linking Legacies" is probably the most comprehensive review I have seen to
date of the "GOCO" weapons complex. Interesting that they seem to have hired
Robert Del Tredici to do more photos for their book.

His work, "At Work in the Fields of the Bomb," although clearly (to me,
anyway) anti-nuclear in its tone, is a very interesting look at places not
well known, even among people who know a lot about the history of nuclear
facilities in this country. The interviews in the back of "Fields" with
folks like Teller and Morgan, and Berlyn Brixner (spelling?) who gets (or
takes) the credit for the photos of the original nuclear explosion in New
Mexico, make fascinating reading.

Very much my own, non-official views.

P.S. Last time I called, you could also get the DOE to send a non-folded
(i.e., rolled) version of the poster from the back of "Linking Legacies."
Got to have mine mounted one of these days...

Jim and others,

DOE's Office of Environmental Management published a large book in January
1997 entitled "Linking Legacies", which appears to be an extensive effort to
document all of the nuclear weapons activities all the way back to the
Manhattan Project. It discusses sites, activities, and links them to their
environmental consequences. It actually makes interesting reading to a
weapons program history buff like me, and I suggest it if any are
interested. (Lots of pictures, too :-)

I did a quick scan of a large summary poster and tables included with the
book, and did not find any reference to anything at all in the state of
Georgia.

The document's number is DOE/EM-0139, and the inside cover claims that it is
available from The Environmental Management Information Center,
800-736-3282.
