 Description of Duties and Responsibilities:  As a Health Physicist, the
incumbent will perform routine health physics area duties as follows; surveys
and inspects laboratories, reviews and follows up on survey reports prepared by
the contractor, investigates external and internal radiation exposures to NIH
personnel. Conducts inventories and leak tests of sealed radiation sources used
in biomedical research or therapeutic and diagnostic clinical research involving
human subjects. Reviews qualifications of researchers to use radioactive
materials and proposed protocols for use of large amounts of radioactivity in
laboratories or animal studies. Interpret data from radioactivity analysis for
reporting and required record keeping.  Uses computer software to analyze data,
prepare reports, and document radiation safety matters such as enforcement
actions, and enters data into comprehensive computerized database of radiation
safety records to demonstrate compliance with applicable federal, state and
local regulations.    

Basic Qualification Requirements:  
Basic Requirements:  A. Degree in natural science or engineering that included
at least 30 semester hours in health physics, engineering, radiological science,
chemistry, physics, biology, mathematics, and/or calculus. 
  OR  
B. Combination of education and experience--courses as shown in A above, plus
approporiate experience or other education, or certification as a health
physicist by the American Board of Health Physics, plus appropriate experience
and other education that provided an understanding of sciences applicable to
health physics comparable to that described in paragraph A.
In addition to meeting the basic requirements, applicants must have 1 year
equivalent specialized experience to the GS-11.  Specialized experience is that
experience which equips the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills and
abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is
typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled.             

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs)  Method to be used in evaluating
candidates: Applicants meeting the minimum qualifications, including the
selective factor(s) if any, will be further evaluated based on the degree that
they meet the Knowledge, Skills and Abilities (KSAs). Any experience, awards,
and/or training and educational courses that relate to the KSAs should be
described in detail as a way of demonstrating your level of competence in the
KSAs. Experience may be as an employee or volunteer, paid or unpaid. This
evaluation determines the list of candidates who will be referred to the
selecting official for final consideration. Therefore applicants must submit a
supplemental statement to their resume or application addressing each of the
specific KSAs listed below. Failure to provide a statement addressing each of
the specific KSAs for this position will eliminate applicants from further
consideration. 

1. Ability to perform radiation safety surveys and inspections including
specialized activities. 	
2. Ability to independently perform routine tasks related to dosimetry and
develop solutions to complex problems. 	

3. Skill in the use of computers for radiological data management, report
preparation, project solving and word processing. 	

Miscellaneous Position Information  Selectee may be subject to completion of a
one year probationary period.

ICTAP/CTAP  Under ICTAP, a well-qualified displaced employee is an individual

experience and selective factors for the vacant position and meets the mid-level
of the crediting plan for all factors or the established cutoff score.   To
receive special selection priority placement, you must occupy or be displaced
from a position in the same local commuting area of the position for which you
are requesting priority consideration.   An ICTAP eligible is a current or
former career or career-conditional competitive service employee, in tenure
group I or II, at grade levels GS-15 or equivalent and below who has received a
specific Reduction in Force separation notice or a notice of proposed removal
for declining a directed reassignment or transfer of function outside of the
local commuting area. Your current (or last) performance rating of record must
be at least fully satisfactory or equivalent. You are applying for a vacancy at
or below the grade level of the position from which you are being separated and
the vacancy has no greater promotion potential than the position from which you
