Times Union (Albany, New York).

Radiation and Health Specialist/Environmental Health and Safety

RESPONSIBILITIES: Perform duties associated with the administration of
Rensselaer's nuclear and radiation safety programs. This will include
inspection, monitoring, and compliance activities that assure that radiation
doses to members of the Rensselaer community and others are as low as
reasonably achievable and adhere to applicable regulations. Responsibilities
will include effective inventory management of radioactive materials
arriving on the Rensselaer campus, and maintaining written procedures in
current condition. Other responsibilities include assuring proper hazardous
material control and abatement efforts and contributing to development of
new general safety programs. Specific responsibilities are accomplished
under the direction of the Director of Environmental Health and Safety and
with the guidance of the Radiation Safety Officer. QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor
of Science degree in nuclear engineering, health physics, or a related
technical discipline, with three to five years of professional experience in
nuclear and radiation safety, and the use of radiation detection equipment.
Working knowledge of applicable Federal and State regulations is requied.
Preference will be given to candidates with an appreciation of the work
environment at an academic institution and appropriate professional
certifications.
