Re: Is ALARA Justified?



    As I understand , the  supporters of ALARA believe the policy is
justified because low-dose exposures MIGHT be harmful. Evidence to the
contrary (and there is a lot of it) MIGHT be wrong. Therefore, the billions
of dollars expended pursuant to ALARA might be  justified.
    Maybe, Chicken Little was right. Just because the sky hasn't fallen only
shows that we have been lucky so far. Maybe, in the future, it might happen.
Since a fallen sky might be  a major catastrophe, perhaps the government
should spend billions on research to prevent such an occurrence. I know many
research organizations that might be happy to take on the job.
