NRC meets Con Ed over N.Y. nuke inspection on May 3

NEW YORK, April 28 (Reuters) - The Nuclear Regulatory
Commission (NRC) said Friday it will meet with Consolidated
Edison Inc. <ED.N> on May 3 to discuss the radiation leak at the
Indian Point 2 nuclear unit in New York earlier this year.

The NRC said in a statement it will discuss the root cause analysis
performed by Con Ed, past and current steam generator
inspections and other associated technical issues.

The 931-megawatt Indian Point 2 unit, located in Buchanan, N.Y.
on the shores of the Hudson River about 35 miles north of New
York City, shut on February 15 when radioactive water leaked from
a crack in one of the thousands of tubes inside one of the plant's
four steam generators.

Steam generators are components that transfer heat from the
reactor systems to the power-generating portion of a nuclear power
plant.

The meeting will be open to the public at an agency office in
Rockville, Md.
