Radiation Safety Technician Opening



UCLA Office of Environment Health and Safety announces the following job
opening:

SENIOR ENVIRONMENTAL HEALTH AND SAFETY TECHNICIAN: $2775 - $3341* As
identified by governmental regulations and license requirements, receive and
survey incoming shipments, collect radioactive waste and prepare for
disposition. Perform radiation survey measurements and safety audits of
laboratories including decontamination and decommissioning. Analyze and
collect samples for counting with spectrometric instruments. Perform
bioassays
to determine levels of internal deposition of radioisotopes within the body.
Calibrate radiation detection instruments. Provide basic guidance to
research employees in the areas of radiation protection. Develop and
maintain timely records via log books, forms, and computer. Occasional
technical memoranda must be written using knowledge of radiation terms.
Participation in
departmental emergency response efforts. 

QUALIFICATIONS: Associates degree (including cumulative course work in
science and math) and two years of experience in a closely related field, or
Bachelor's degree in physical science, or equivalent combination of training
and experience as determined by
the Radiation Safety Officer. Working knowledge of radiation instruments.
Familiarity with mathematics sufficient to use instruments, perform surveys,
and handle waste by applying radioactive decay, inverse square law, and
simple dose formulae. Interpersonal skills to interact closely with faculty
and staff
effectively. Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. and to handle 250 lb. drums in
the waste program.
