Subject: Gemstone irradiation

Hello,

Does anyone have a reference to indicate the approximate radiation dose
to
treat different gemstones. I am specifically interested in the dose for
amethysts. We will be using Co-60 gamma irradiation. I know that in
topaz,
the coloration is not permanent when you use gammas as opposed to
neutrons,
but does anyone have any experience with other gemstones? Does the same
hold true and how quickly does the coloration fade? Thank you.
