MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Applicant must meet all of the following components for this
classification.
Information for score assignment will be obtained from what is indicated

PLEASE NOTE: FOR SCORING PURPOSES, POINTS ARE AWARDED FOR
POSSESSING EXPERIENCE OR A HIGHER LEVEL OF KNOWLEDGE THAN
REQUIRED BY THE BASIC QUALIFICATIONS. IT IS IMPERATIVE THAT
YOU CLEARLY ADDRESS THE QUALIFICATIONS FOR CORRECT
ASSESSMENT OF APPLICATION. PLEASE USE ADDITIONAL PAPER, IF
NEEDED.
1. Experience in radiation program planning, development,
implementation and evaluation.
- Describe in detail your experience in the above areas.
2. Experience in the interpretation and application of State and Federal
laws, rules, regulations, policies and procedures.
- Applicants must have experience in regulatory and statutory
interpretation and applications relating to radiological health and
safety issues. Please be specific.
3. Experience in management relations and supervisory techniques.
- Applicants must have experience in supervisory techniques
including delegation of authority, coordination of workflow,
prioritization and assignment of tasks.
4. Knowledge of radiation principles and practices of the life, natural
and/or physical sciences.
- Describe all applicable course work and/or experience in a
scientific discipline including but not limited to health physics,
radiation engineering, radiochemistry, radiobiology.
- If claiming knowledge is through education, attach a copy of your
college transcript (unofficial is acceptable), highlighting all relevant
course work.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS CONTINUED:
5. Knowledge of accounting practices and procedures, budget
analyses and contract management.
- Describe all applicable course work and/or relevant experience with
fiscal management, accounting procedures, contract management
and supervision.
- If claiming knowledge is through education, attach a copy of your
college transcript (unofficial is acceptable), highlighting all relevant
course work.
6. Ability to communicate effectively.
- Applicants must possess the ability to communicate with the
general public, fellow employees and intra-agency or inter-agency
contacts for the efficient application of services.
- Applicants may be required to take a writing sample test at the
interview, if scheduled.
LICENSE, REGISTRATIONS, OR CERTIFICATES:
Possession of a Master's degree in health physics, radiological physics,
or
related area or Bachelor's degree in same with 2 years minimum
professional experience.
SUMMARY STATEMENT:
The class incumbent is responsible for the development and management
of Statewide Radiological Health & Safety Programs.
WEIGHT OF EXAMINATION: 100% TRAINING & EXPERIENCE

PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES:
Consults, advises and recommends the development of policy, regulations
and protective actions on radiation with State and Federal agencies and
with national organizations. Supervises the work of clerical and
professional radiation control personnel. Reviews staff reports
concerning
inspections conducted on facilities and radiation measurement equipment.
Enforces compliance of licensees and registrants with Delaware Radiation
Control Regulations in accordance with accepted radiation protection
practices. Manages budgets and contracts for Radiation Control Program
and for Radiological Emergency Plan. Drafts technical procedures in the
areas of radioactive waste generation, radon, and radioactive materials
packaging, transport and disposal. Performs related work as required.
BENEFITS:
These include 15 paid vacation days, liberal pension benefits and health
and life insurance to include paid sick leave. For part-time employees,
vacation and sick leave are credited on a pro-rated basis.
