Re: Dr. Rosalie's Latest Crusade

July 12

Dr. Rosalie Bertell gave testimony before the Senate Veterans Affairs
Committee on April 21, 1998. I downloaded it from the Committee web page
in October 1999, and saved it on my hard drive. (I don't know if it is
still posted. The URL is <www.senate.gov/~veterans/bertell.htm>.)

Bertell introduced herself by saying, "By profession, I am a biometrician,
which is a specialty in mathematics applied to biomedical problems, and am
qualified to design and evaluate epidemiological research. I have worked in
the area of the health effects of ionizing radiation, especially at low
doses and slow dose rates, for the past 30 years and have produced and
published books and professional papers on the subject."

She also said, "First, dose reconstruction does nothing to prove or
disprove that a veteran's cancer or disease is related to their nuclear
radiation exposure. It should be sufficient for a veteran to prove that he
or she participated in a 'radiation risk activity'." (Later in her
testimony she said that money was being "wasted on dose reconstruction.")

It's eight pages of 12 point type, with three tables. If it is not
available on the Internet, and you would like a copy, send me a private
e-mail and I will forward it as an attachment, or as an e-mail, whichever
you prefer.
