A point that is has been overlooked in this discussion
(pertinent to the U.S.A. only) is that while patient excreta is specifically
exempted by regulation when deposited in the sanitary sewer by the patient
directly, sewer disposal of radionuclides is also permitted by 10 CFR
20.2003. Use of this regulation may require specific licensing and will
require estimation of the activity and recordkeeping, but this may be a more
agreeable alternative than storage for decay.
