Czech Parliamentary Chairman Praises Temelin Nuclear Plant
PRAGUE, Jul 19, 2000 -- (RFE/RL) Parliamentary chairman and opposition Civic
Democratic Party leader Vaclav Klaus said on 17 July that he hopes no
referendum will be held on the activation of the Temelin nuclear power plant
because it would lead to "lobbying" and "pressure from abroad," AP and CTK
reported.
Klaus visited the plant and praised it as an example of "top world
technology".
On 14 July, a spokesman for the plant said the loading of nuclear fuel in
the first reactor has been successfully completed.
The same day, the Friends of the Earth environmental movement filed criminal
charges against the Czech Republic's State Nuclear Safety Commission.
