Re: TMI, Hershey, and radioactive milk?
Rosalie Bertell's statement is questionable. To the best of my knowledge,
nothing about the TMI releases would have been classified under any
classification category in 1979, though it might have been proprietary
information for the utility. Moreover, it is (and was) a regulatory
violation (and may be illegal) to classify information simply to keep it
from the public. That's not the purpose of classification. Just because
information must be requested under FOIA doesn't mean any of it was ever
classified.
I remember quite distinctly that monitoring data from the TMI accident was
available in the federal documents section of the University of Washington
library in (as I recall) the winter of 1979-1980, because I looked it up.
