Controlled Area Posting

We have several questions at Big Rock Point for NRC licensees relating to a
controlled area as defined in 10CFR20.1003 (i.e., an area outside of a
restricted area but inside the site boundary, access to which can be
limited by the licensee for any reason).

If you have formally established a controlled area and you exceed 100
mrem/year TEDE (if you follow 10CFR20.1302(b)(1)) or 50 mrem/year DDE (if
you follow 10CFR20.1302(b)(2)) outside your restricted area boundary but
not beyond your controlled area boundary, please answer the following:

1)  Have you posted the boundaries of the controlled area and, if so, how
have you worded your posting?

2)  How do you demonstrate that you restrict access to the controlled area
by members of the public such that they cannot exceed the
10CFR20.1302(b)(1) or (2) dose limits?

3)  How do you perform the surveys required by 10CFR20.1302(a)?  Restricted
area boundary TLDs, area TLDs placed within the controlled area, periodic
microR-meter dose rate surveys of the controlled area, etc. or a
combination of methods?
