Hi Rusty:
Your orphan source is indeed a static eliminator which was made in variable 
lengths of up to many feet. The isotopes are contained in a foil material 
mounted in an aluminum and steel housing such that the alpha particles are 
emitted throug a steel grid to ionize the ambient air.

Isotopes used were Po-210 and Am-241
