AMRSO group

First, I mustapologize for accidentally posting a private message in a
public forum. Bit by the ease of hitting the "reply" button.

Second, I would like to emphasize that the AMRSO group is ONLY for RSOs at
academic and medical institutions, or for someone designated by the RSO. We
have had some discussions about this within the group, and we feel there is
much to be gained by limiting our membership in this manner - at the least,
it helps to keep message traffic low and ensures the content is relevant to
a high fraction of list members. I very much appreciate the recent
expressions of interest by individuals who work for other types of
institutions, but the group has consistently expressed a desire to limit
membership in this manner.

Finally, I'd like to apologize if my accidental posting gave inadvertent
offense to regulators and antis. It would have been better for me to have
said simply that membership was limited as noted above rather than saying
that these groups were excluded. In any event, I know of many Radsafe
members who have stated their reluctance to ask certain questions or to
share information freely because of concerns that even an innocent question
or comment could be turned against them or their institution. I myself have
been surprised to receive e-mail in response to some of my Radsafe postings
from people who are well-known and/or notorious (depending on your
viewpoint). The goal of the AMRSO group is to offer a "safe" forum in which
a relatively small group of RSOs can discuss problems or concerns of mutual
interest without such worries and without being inundated. These are some
of the reasons we have limited our membership and why the list server is run
as a moderated list.

In any event, thanks again for the expressions of interest by many parties.
Those of you who are academic and/or medical RSOs will be added to our list
server, and those of you who are not, please accept my apologies for not
doing so.

Sincerely,

Andy
