Panel approves 3rd reactor for Hokkaido Electric Tomari plant

TOKYO, Oct. 20 (Kyodo) - A government advisory panel on Friday 
endorsed a plan by Hokkaido Electric Power Co. to build a third 
nuclear reactor at its power plant in the village of Tomari, 
Hokkaido. 

The Electric Power Development Coordination Council, which advises 
the prime minister, gave a green light to the plan to build the light-
water reactor, which will have a maximum generating capacity of 
912,000 kilowatts. 

The utility is to begin construction of the reactor in April 2003 to 
make it operational in December 2008.
