Flip-Flop on Nuclear Power Use

Patrice Hill's Nov. 17th article, in the Washington Times, "Gore Made
Flip-Flop on Nuclear Power Use",
http://www.washtimes.com/business/default-200011172247.htm, provides an
overview of U.S. efforts (and environmentalists' opposition) to meet the
requirements of the yet-unratified Kyoto Treaty.

According to the article, Gore issued a statement on Nov. 3 stating, "I
have disagreed with those who would classify nuclear energy as clean or
renewable" not only for purposes of the global-warming treaty, but as part
of any federal legislation to restructure the electric industry." Gore
also said, "I do not support any increased reliance on nuclear energy.

Previously the Clinton administration has said that U.S. companies should
be able to help third world countries build nuclear-power plants as a way
of complying with the treaty. Environmentalists oppose any nuclear power
plants in third world countries.

Hill's article also mentions other carbon dioxide reduction methods being
considered such as protecting forests and buying "emission reduction
credits" from countries with collapsed economies, such as Russia.

BTW, at a meeting in The Hague, Saudi Arabia said it wants $25 billion/yr
in "reparations" for the treaty-mandated reduction in oil consumption.
