Radiation and I-131
I informed the individual who requested the information below, that I
would ask others to respond to her directly. I gave her some basics,
but I would rather have others who deal with this in their every day
job provide more pertinent information...
Please respond to Ms. Briggs directly, and not to the listserver....
----------------
I have been trying to locate information concerning the impact of
various levels of I 131 can have on a spouse of one being treated
with radioiodine after a thyroidectomy for cancerous tumor. I
continue to get conflicting messages among the doctors I see.
I am specifically interested in what precautions one must take with
my spouse if I am given 5 millicuries of I 131 as a followup
treatment. We previously observed strict precautions when I received
29 millicuries, as if it were 70 or higher as we received such
differing opinions between the oncologist and the endocrinologist.
If this isn't in your area of expertise, would you know of someone
whom I could contact who may be able to solve this dilemma?
Thank you for your help in this matter.
Sincerely,
Joyce Briggs
