Re: EPDs in Medical Environments

Joe,

We are currently monitoring areas around a magnicon with a combination of
detectors including TLD, film, electrets, and a Victoreen 450 Pressurized Ion
Chamber in integrate mode. This Magnicon has about a 2.5 msec pulse width,
about 1 pulse per second prf and about an average energy of about 100 kv.

Comparing the EPD, a Siemens isotrak Doseguard, we have seen a relative
response of about 50 % compared to the integrating electrets and about 75 %
comparative response to the integrating Victoreen 450 P. We have not received
enough data to date from the TLDs and film. From our information thus far the
EPDs under respond by 25 -50 % but do seem to work for sub second pulsed x-ray
or photon fields.
