Radiation Safety Specialist Opportunity



Position Description: Radiation Safety Specialist, Wyeth Ayerst Research, Pearl River, New York

Wyeth Ayerst Research has an immediate (1/1/01) opening for a Radiation Safety Specialist at our Pearl River, NY research and manufacturing campus in Rockland County, NY. The Radiation Safety Specialist is responsible for: isotope ordering, package receipt and shipment, dosimeter management, laboratory audits and surveys, decontamination, source leak testing, materials inventory, survey meter calibration database maintenance, and other duties assigned by the RSO. The specialist performs surveys utilizing appropriate radiation detection survey instruments, gamma and liquid scintillation counters. Ensures tests being performed are accurate and comply with procedures. Conducts, and, or assists with radiation safety training of radioactive materials users. Drafts and updates procedures to document best practices. Performs lab audits and documents results. Provides radioactive waste services to include: packaging of wastes, decay-in-storage drum maintenance and manifesting of waste shipments. 

BS Degree in health physics, physics, chemistry or biology with 1-2 year experience. Certification by the NRPT Board is highly desirable. Experience with the use of radioactive materials, radioactive waste management, and radiation safety/health physics in a research environment is necessary. Computer experience (MS Word, Excel, etc) and excellent written and verbal communication skills are essential.
