Re: Air Pollution deaths

I read the article (and I am, by the way, a Johns Hopkins graduate) and
without seeing the original peer reviewed article it is impossible to make a
judgment. However, the authors of those peer reviewed articles that I have
read, while they may know a good bit about respiratory disease, don't seem
to know much about how air pollutants are dispersed, or even what the major
polluting constituents of air are. In my opinion (and I will NOT resort tom
"IMO"), the relative locations of the pollution sources and the monitors and
the population affected, the length of time the population has been exposed,
the other factors they have been exposed to, and the weather patterns, as
well as the emission history, must all be considered in making this kind of
pronouncement, and they rarely (if ever) are.

Why was the press release issued that led to this article? What purpose
(let alone scientific purpose) did it serve?
