RE: NIST Traceable Am-241 Alpha Particle Calibration Standards

Here in California, 0.05 uCi is defined as an exempt quantity (Title 17,
Section 30180 (b)28(C.

The same activity is specified in 10CFR30.15 (a)(9)(iii)

Semi-related query....while trying to rewrite a site procedure, a co-worker
was unable to ascertain the "licensable quantity" for Am-241. Any ideas on
where, if anywhere, such a number may be given.

Thank you for the information/assistance!

Don't remove the source from the smoke detector. It cost us around $2000 to
dispose of one of these sources that had been removed. The source is only
exempt from licensing as long as it's still in the detector.
