RE:Am-241 License Requirements
Similar to special nuclear material and AEA 11(e)2 byproduct material,
Am-241 has no general licensable quantity value associated with it -
although specific-use exemptions due exist for Am-241 in 10CFR30.
Subsequently, it can be inferred that any amount of Am-241, when used
outside of the its specific exemptions, is potentially licensable. However,
items with Am-241 surface contamination meeting the unrestricted release
criteria of a regulatory document such as Reg Guide 1.86 and DOE Order
5400.5 (if such documents are applicable to you) are not licensable.
Does anybody know why there are no values for Am-241 in Schedules A and B of
10CFR30?

Semi-related query....while trying to rewrite a site procedure, a co-worker
was unable to ascertain the "licensable quantity" for Am-241. Any ideas on
where, if anywhere, such a number may be given.
Thank you for the information/assistance!
