After the Chernobyl accident the idea of deep plowing was a favourite idea
of some "green radiation protection scientists" in Austria. It was neither
recommended nor done in Austria, because the agriculture scientists made it
clear that such a measure would severely disturb the fertility of the soil.

The contamination of crops could be easily detected, but in terms of
radiation protection principles it was negligible. So why to introduce such
severe interference with a natural ecosystem?
