Tech Basis for Large Area Wipes for Alpha Contamination

This is being posted for a colleague who is not subscribed to RadSafe -
Please direct replies to him. RadSafe archives have already been searched
with only one such document referred to (from Y-12, dated 1997). However,
it didn't fully meet the all criteria given below (specifically, minimum
detectable activity).

REQUEST FOR INFORMATION

Is anyone aware of any documented technical basis for performing large area
wipes for alpha contamination, particularly using an oil-impregnated smear
media, such as Masslin cloth? The discussion should consider dust loading,
self-shielding by the oil, collection efficiency, and minimum detectable
activity. I am particularly interested in a study that is documented to the
level it can be used as a reference.

Thanks,
