Re:Hydroshot

In a "hydroshot," a weapon is made with DU rather than fissionable material, and
fired. This tests the workings of the high explosive lens and the uniformity of
the implosion, without any nuclear yield being possible. These tests are
usually done in the open and away from any structures (300 area at Livermore,
canyon desert at Los Alamos) and observed with high-speed photography. Those
who believe that any fool can build a nuclear explosive in their basement and
expect to get any appreciable yield from it don't consider the magnificant
precision with which the implosion must occur.
