Re: shutting down
I have sent an offer to Melissa to take over RADSAFE. It would continue
to be a free service BUT will need to establish some sort of revenue to
cover ISP costs. Therefore it would involve sponsorship and some way to
make those sponsors visible.
Right now the thoughts are to allow them ads and links on the web site
and MAYBE 1, and only 1, list email per month listing who the sponsors
are.
This would be relatively low exposure for them - but also we would be
asking very little in the way of sponsorship.
We could also have a side list where people could go to when looking for
products or services and where sponsors could freely participate.
Anyone NOT subscribed to that ADDITIONAL service would NOT see any of
that traffic.
These are our thoughts and others would be welcome - as well as
criticisms of these ideas.
The fellow with the ISP is willing to take it for a year - and so long
as he can meet costs - it will continue.
I think we can keep things looking almost the same as they are now.
Melissa had already chosen a successor moderator and this would of
course be honored as a co-moderator.
There will NOT be splash ads attached to each and every email - I expect
the ASCII format to remain. The only attached "ad" one might see would
be one to encourage visiting the site and checking out the vendor links.
This is not unlike the vendor sponsorship at the annual and mid year
meetings - and thus I assume would be acceptable.
Listserver services can also me made available to HPS specialties and
maybe other functions - like ANSI writing groups. We will work this out
as we go along - and once again - WITHOUT adding to the traffic of
RADSAFE as we now know it.
