     Description:  Associate Radiation Safety Officer.  Washington
University School of Medicine, one of the top five medical schools in the
country, currently has a challenging career opportunity for an Associate
Radiation Safety Officer.  The Associate RSO reports to the RSO/Assistant
Director of Environmental Health and Safety.  The Associate RSO is
responsible for managing the technical operations of the Radiation Safety
Staff in support of the radiation safety program for Washington University
School of Medicine, Medical Center and Hilltop Campus.  This includes
directly supervising Radiation Safety personnel.  The radiation safety
program oversees the use of radioactive materials for approximately 1,000
research laboratories, for the nuclear medicine and radiation oncology
services in the Medical Center, for the cyclotron-production of radioactive
materials, and for x-ray devices used in research, diagnostic radiology,
diagnostic cardiology, and radiation oncology.  The qualified candidate
must have a bachelors degree in health physics or related field with a
Masters degree preferred.  Must have at least three to four years
experience in operational health physics.  Experience working under a broad
scope license with medical and research activities is preferred as well as
Certification as a Health Physicist by the American Board of Health
Physics, or equivalent certification.  The preferred candidate will also
have previous supervisory experience, radiation safety knowledge and
experience in internal dose methodology, computation of effective and organ
doses, environmental evaluation and monitoring, emergency radiological
response, survey instrument calibrations, assay of radioactivity, shield
calculations, and state and federal regulatory agencies including NRC broad
scope medical licensing.  Strong communication and management skills are
required along with the ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines.
