Re: An explanation for hormesis?

Does this placebo phenomenon possibly account for the observed negative
correlation between background radiation levels and cancer incidence?
Perhaps people residing in high background areas really believe that their
increased radiation exposure level has been good for them and this
psychosomatic effect has served to prevent the disease.
Does the phenomenon work both ways? For example, would a genuine belief
in the occurrence of harmful effects of exposure to DU cause increased
harmful effects among military personnel who served in the Gulf War and
the Balkans?
