Lung cancer in perspective
A friend of mine (prof. in the cancer field) told me earlier today that
according to the 1999 year's statistics, lung cancer is now the number one
cancer killer among Swedish women (breast cancer is number two). The
relationship is more pronounced (lung cancer dominating over breast cancer)
for younger women. My friend also said that the number of lung cancer deaths
in the U.S. are about the same as the number of breast, prostate, and
colorectal cancer deaths plus leukemias put together.
I couldn't get the references - we only spoke for a few minutes - but my
friend is usually accurate with facts. Any Internet based references will be
appreciated.
Then the usual scary articles about mobile phones (do they cause brain
tumors etc) continue as if nothing happened (negative reports don't produce
headlines) - at least here in Sweden. Last time was only a few days ago -
one scientist here has suggested the formation of a "truth committee" for
the mobile phone issue... ("proving the negative" - again...).
My personal reflections only,
