US Lawyer Fagan Seeks Temelin Plant Visit Today, Paper Says

Prague, March 20 (Bloomberg) -- Edward Fagan, a U.S. lawyer

advising Austrian opponents in their effort to stop the Czech

Temelin nuclear power plant from starting commercial operations,

wants to visit the facility this morning, Czech daily Mlada Fronta

Dnes reported.

CEZ AS, the main Czech utility that runs the Temelin plant, said it

is not aware of Fagan's visit because he never contacted the

company. CEZ said Austrian activists only told plant officials they

want to visit the plant today, the daily reported. The company

rejected that, telling them March 26 is the earliest possible day for

a visit because it would otherwise have to cancel other booked

visits, the paper reported, citing CEZ spokesman Ladislav Kriz.

Fagan, who has represented thousands of victims in Nazi slave

labor lawsuits, called last month on CEZ and U.S.-based

Westinghouse Electric Co., which upgraded the plant to meet more

stringent safety standards, to submit documentation of all the

plant's equipment by tonight.

CEZ said most of the documentation is available to the public,

while others are confidential. Fagan said he will sue the companies

if they fail to provide the documents, Mlada Fronta Dnes reported.

Temelin is located about 70 kilometers north of the Austrian border.

The first block of the power plant was completed and put into trial

operations in October, sparking protests from Austria that

culminated in border-crossing blockades. Temelin is scheduled to

begin commercial operations this summer.
