Thanks to all the RADSAFERS who responded to my question.
A special thanks to Ruth for the information on where to find the test
documents.
Having read them I can better phrase my question.
Relative to the testing and certification of TRU-Pack II, RH TRU and if
testing was performed on UF6 transport containers, information on which I
could not find.
The NRC test temperatures used was 800oC. Thermal Analysis of Generic Spent
Fuel Casks were tested in 2000 at 800oC and 1000 oC.
Mr. Hutton in his article feels that the above transportation containers
TRU-Pack II, RH TRU and UF6 transport containers would fail at 1000oC and
should be tested at that temperature particularly the UF6 Transport
containers. He feels those should be overpacked.
My question is how would these containers fair in the postulated 1000oC fire
at 30 min, and 60 min?
Based on this should emergency responders employ any different precautions,
protective action decisions, response strategies and tactics than those
that have been taught up to this time?
