Re: GEOLOGISTS LEARNING URANIUM CONTAINMENT FROM NATURE
Marty,
Our (SAIC) rerort was completed in1982, and submitted to DOE/NVOO, where
it died.
Citation for this report is:
Cohen, JJ, "A Review of Information Related to Required Isolation Periods
for High-Level Radioactive Waste", SAI/PL-82-23, Science Applications, Inc.
report to US Dept. of Energy (Contract No. De-AC05-810R-20837) December,
1982
A review of this work was later presented at the Waste Management '89
meeting in Tucson. This citation is:
Cohen, JJ, G.R. Daer, C.F. Smith, D.K. Vogt, and S.W. Woolfolk, " An
Assessment of Issues Related to Determination of Time Periods for Isolation
of High-Level Waste"
Waste Management '89, U. of Arizona, (March, 1989)
note: this paper cites several of the other sudies I refered to
During the study, we were able to identify several naturally-occuring
mineral formations in the state of Nevada (arsenic, selenium, etc.) that
posed a far more serious threat to health and environment than the Yucca
Mtn. reporitory would. We wanted to pursue study along these lines, but DOE
determined that such information would be irrelevant. Jerry
