Senior Radiological Health Specialist
The New York State Department of health is seeking a person experienced in
health physics to work in its Troy office. The incumbent would inspect
facilities using x-ray equipment, accelerators and radioactive materials; review
license applications for use of radioactive materials; assist in administering
the Radiologic Technologists licensure and registration program; investigate
environmental contamination with radioactive materials; respond to radiological
incidents and emergencies; and respond to public inquiries relating to ionizing
and non-ionizing radiation. Salary range is $39,468 to $49,124. Excellent
benefits.
Qualifications: A Bachelor of Science degree in health physics or a physical or
natural science, or one including or supplemented by 30 credit hours in one or
more of these fields; and a minimum of two years experience in radiation
protection control or in a nuclear medicine or medical X-ray quality assurance
programs. Experience must include dealing with radioactive materials or
radiation producing equipment (experience limited to imaging of patients will
not be considered qualifying). A master's or doctoral degree in health physics
may be substituted for one or two years of the required experience,
respectively. The position may involve extensive travel. You must demonstrate
capacity to meet the transportation needs involved in carrying out work
responsibilities which will include travel to areas not served by public
transportation.
