RE: FFTF not dead yet ...
Thanks Ruth -- particularly for your
participation in the Draft PEIS.
....of course Americans must decide whether
or not they want the FFTF, but as an outside observer, it seems to me very
short-sighted to get rid of such a unique asset.
One thing that bothers me in particular -
due to my personal interest in space exploration - is that many folks at NASA
and related institutions are making all sorts of plans on how to achieve
cost savings ( $hundreds of millions !) in near-future
unmanned deep space missions by using nuclear electric propulsion (NEP) to
dramatically reduce launch mass.... yet they don't seem to take the
time to push the government to maintain facilities like FFTF, which are
indispensable for the production of certain fissile isotopes which can NOT
be produced on a large scale in thermal reactors.
Personal opinion only....

Well there were also a
lot of comments on the Draft PEIS arguing for
retaining the FFTF. One
of those was mine, by the way.
