RE: FFTF not dead yet ...



Thanks Ruth -- particularly for your participation in the Draft PEIS.
 
....of course Americans must decide whether or not they want the FFTF, but as an outside observer, it seems to me very short-sighted to get rid of such a unique asset.
 
One thing that bothers me in particular - due to my personal interest in space exploration - is that many folks at NASA and related institutions are making all sorts of plans on how to achieve cost savings ( $hundreds of millions !) in near-future unmanned deep space missions by using nuclear electric propulsion (NEP) to dramatically reduce launch mass....   yet they don't seem to take the time to push the government to maintain facilities like FFTF, which are indispensable for the production of certain fissile isotopes which can NOT be produced on a large scale in thermal reactors.

Well there were also a lot of comments on the Draft PEIS arguing for
retaining the FFTF.  One of those was mine, by the way.
