That was very good. It is
satisfying to see some media attention to the concept of hormesis.
Too often, we have seen some of
the media and the usual political hacks trying to frighten people out of their
wits. It does not help for making rational decisions on risk management,
when the people are panicked.
The current furor over arsenic
does have a parallel with the hysteria relating to low level radiation.
The environmental advocacy groups and regulatory bodies seem to be blindly using
the Linear No Threshold risk model. However, they have never tested the
validity of that model.
Of course, they cannot very well test the risk
model at low doses and low exposure levels. Why? The necessary
sample size increases with the inverse of the square of the resolution they
desire. Soon, the sample size will become larger than the entire
population they are studying. Of course, they cost of performing such a
study would spiral out of control.
