Seems to me that it would be elementary to fill the container with water to 

displace any gasses.  The resulting container would not crush, at leas not 

very much.  One could also provide for intrusion of water into the void 

spaces of the container on the way down.  That combined with the 

vitrification of the wastes (not fuel which should be recycled) and designing 

the package to penetrate the bottom should make the placement secure and 

immobile.  Am I wrong?
