Is there a special program, perhaps sponsored by DOE, to recycle or dispose
of used radium brachytherapy sources?
Dr. Morgan:
A number of years ago there was a program through the Conference of Radiation
Control Program Directors, Inc. in conjunction with the EPA I believe to
coordinate disposal of radium sealed sources. The CRCPD has a website
http://www.crcpd.org/ which notes contact info and links to their current
activities.
What type of source is involved here? [source strength, encapsulation,
manufacturer?]. Certain foreign manufacturers of radium sources have been
reported to have consolidated listings of all radium sources they fabricated
which may assist in arranging disposal or sharing in the disposal of
so-called orphaned radium sources.
