Environmental Radiation Specialist 1, and welcomes applications from

Position: Environmental Radiation Specialist 1

State Salary Grade: 18

Salary Range:  $39,469 (current civil service starting salary; not 

negotiable) to $49,124 (after annual advances of $1,380)



Employment Type:  Full Time

Work Days and Hours:  Monday - Friday, 8:30 to 5:00 pm

Bargaining unit:  Professional Employees Federation  

Appointment Type:  Contingent Permanent/Provisional



Note: This position will be a provisional appointment, pending 

the next offering of the radiation civil service exam (not scheduled 

at this time).  



Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in biological, 

environmental or physical sciences or in engineering and at least 

two years of professional experience in radiological science, 

radiological engineering or nuclear engineering.  A master's degree

in those fields can substitute for one year of experience.



Duties may include investigation of sites contaminated with radioactive 

materials, evaluation of discharges and disposals of radioactive material 

to the environment, environmental radiation surveys and sampling and 

analysis,  and inspections of facilities discharging or disposing of radioactive 

materials.  Duties require travel from 10 - 25 % of time, depending on 

assignments.
