SALARY RANGE:  $1861.00 - $2546.00/MONTHLY**



GENERAL INFORMATION This recruitment will be used to fill one full-time

Nuclear Reactor Operator position at the Radiation Center for Oregon State

University, Corvallis.  You will receive notice by mail informing you of the

status of your application. **Typically the successful candidate is hired at

the lower end of the salary range.



MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Your OSU application form will be reviewed to verify

that you meet the qualifications stated in this section.  To receive credit,

your application form must clearly show that you have: One of the following:

college-level, vocational, or military courses in Reactor Operations and

Principles, Electronics, and/or Radiological Health and Safety; OR a

satisfactory combination of on-the-job training and experience; AND must be

able to obtain a Nuclear Regulatory Commission Reactor Operator's license

for the specific reactor within 12 months of appointment.  The training and

experience must clearly show: knowledge of nuclear reactor theory; knowledge

of general reactor operating characteristics; knowledge of math sufficient

to calculate algebraic formulas; knowledge of radiological safety principles

and procedures; and skill using mechanical equipment and hand tools.



DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES The Radiation Center is a unique institutional

facility designed to provide support to instructional and research programs

for all OSU departments, as well as other OUS schools, and to other

organizations state-wide, nationally, and internationally.  The purpose of

this position is to operate the OSU TRIGA reactor in accordance with state

and federal regulations and OSU operating procedures. The major duties of

this position include performing maintenance tasks and operational equipment

checks; maintaining a written record (log) of all maintenance and operation

activities for later review; assisting experimenters in completing

irradiations for their research projects; instructing academic and student

personnel in the safe operation of the reactor; and assisting in academic

laboratory classes which utilize the reactor.



WORKING CONDITIONS Must be able to work under the following conditions with

or without reasonable accommodation:  working on a daily basis with

radioactive materials involving ionizing radiation  and working around a

nuclear reactor; wearing special protective clothing for routine maintenance

of the reactor on a monthly basis; and annually undergoing a comprehensive

requalification program including examinations which have been approved and

audited by the US Nuclear Regulatory Commission.

ESSAY QUESTION:

Include: (a) starting up, operating, and conducting maintenance and

surveillance checks on a nuclear reactor; and (b) knowledge of Federal and

State regulations necessary for operating and maintaining a nuclear reactor.

Indicate how you obtained your training and/or experience, the duties you

performed, and your level of responsibility.



2.	Describe your training and/or experience in the operation of mechanical

systems including such items as heat exchangers, pumps or control systems.
