post-doc fellowship available





FELLOWSHIP IN CANCER IMAGING RESEARCH



Location: Vanderbilt University Medical Center/ Meharry Medical College

Nashville, TN

Availability: August 1, 2001

Duration: 2-3 years



Eligibility: A recent M.D. or Ph.D. with interest in research training in

the development and use of new imaging techniques and modalities in cancer

research. A background in either imaging or cancer biology is required.

Candidates must be citizens or noncitizen nationals who have been lawfully

admitted to the United States for permanent residence. Individuals on

temporary visas are not eligible.



Description: The training program is jointly sponsored by Vanderbilt

University Medical Center Department of Radiology and Radiological Sciences,

Meharry Medical College and the Vanderbilt-Ingram Comprehensive Cancer

Center. Active areas of research include both small animal and human imaging

projects. Mouse models of human cancer are under investigation with

single-photon and PET radiopharmaceuticals, monoenergetic and polyenergetic

computed tomography, power Doppler ultrasound, magnetic resonance imaging,

magnetic resonance spectroscopy, and phase-contrast radiography. Among

others, human investigations include the integration of functional imaging

methods with radiation treatment planning, development of techniques to

image fusion, molecular and gene-expression imaging and quantifications of

tumor growth, metabolism and therapy response.



Fellowship duration will normally be 2-3 years depending upon experience. In

addition to the research program, the training program will include the

opportunity for up to 6 hours of related coursework per semester to be

taken. Fellows will be assigned two mentors representing the imaging and

cancer biology disciplines. With the assistance of the mentors, each Fellow

will be expected to develop an independent research project.
