RE: alpha and beta efficiencies for plastic scintillators

>From the responses I have received it is clear I need to clarify that I use the efficiencies to calculate total activity to compare to release criteria in dpm/100cm^2.  I am assuming that this would require  the use of 4 pi efficiency to meet the release criteria definition.  What use is 2 pi efficiency anyway?   One problem I have discovered is that my Sr-90 source certificate only lists the activity due to Sr-90 and does not account for the Y-90 in secular equilibrium.
