RE: Franz - RE: X-ray of packages and containers

Franz,

There was a paper presented at the Office of National Drug Control Policy

International Symposium, San Diego, CA on June 26-28, 2001 entitled

"Radiation Dose to Stowaways in Vehicles." It evaluated the doses to

stowaways in cars, trucks, and sea containers that are being inspected for

contraband. Using a RANDO phantom in various types of containers exposed to

various x-ray, gamma-ray and accelerator sources. Only with pulsed fast

neutron analysis and 6 MeV accelerator system did the 10's of mrem (<1 mSv)

range.

Of course, the total dose could exceed 100 mrem (1 mSv) as people who get

caught trying to get into the country try and get in again. And get another

dose.

What about the doses to a possible hidden

person?
