Here is a blurb (from the 10/24/01 Daily
Republic) about Nevadans and there attempt to stop a kittly litter removal
project. Evidently they don't know it would also removed a lot of RAM from
their state, which they don't want there anyway. I wonder what the
radiological controls for such a mine is?
"Nevada urged to reject cat litter mine
permit
RENO, Nev.
Critics of a proposed clay mine and cat
litter plant near Reno urged state officials to take extra steps to make sure
the land is successfully restored to normal should the controversial project
move forward. Others took the opportunity to again call for rejection of
the Oil Dri Corp. plans to pull nearly 7 million tons of clay from two open pit
mines in Hungry Valley and use the material to manufacture premier cat litter at
a 24 hour factory. About 100 people attended the hearing on the permit
Monday night, most of them critics. "I want you to hear what we're saying.
We don't want this mine in Hungry Valley," resident Jill Ransom said. "What's
the bottom line? To tear up our land for Kitty Litter? It's
disgusting."
